Compassion Heals a World of Violence...
Since 1990 the Sisters of the Divine Compassion have directed, supported and hosted the Rainbow Connection Summer Program. This is a six week program for young children in the White Plains area. A large percentage of the children are Hispanic and attend a Head Start Program.
The program offers children ages 3, 4 and 5 an opportunity to play, learn and interact in a safe and loving environment. A full range of age appropriate activities is provided for the youngsters. Many of these children are from families who are new to this country and are not eligible for government assistance. Therefore, only a small fee is charged to each family.
Breakfast and lunch are provided through the federal lunch program. Most of the staff is bilingual and the adults are all educators. Our senior counselors are high school students who have worked with us for many years.
The program is described as a “unique in providing educational, recreational and enrichment activities at an age appropriate level.”
